Comment on What UBC has learned about doing MOOCs by Tony Bates

September 17, 2014 Tony Bates

Great comment, Rebecca, but just one correction. I probably didn’t make myself clear, but the MOOCs didn’t showcase UBC’s online for-credit programs. What I meant was that UBC was able to bring its prior experience in designing for-credit online programs to the design of its MOOCs.
As far as I know there has been no attempt to use the MOOCs to market the for-credit online courses and I don’t think there are any in the same subject areas as the MOOCs.
With respect to online students, UBC’s flexible learning strategy is meant to widen the base for its recruitment, and MOOCs are part of that strategy – see my previous post on UBC’s flexible learning strategy.
